Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board created from three sections of cardboard taped together to form a single board that folds at the joins. Each of the three sections is mounted with four posters from the "Great Kings of Africa" series, created by Anheuser-Busch in 1981. Each poster is for a different African king and consists of a color drawing by an African American artist with the king on the left, and a contextual drawing to the right. Below the drawing is the title, a brief biography of the king and the Budweiser logo. The drawings are for: Affonso I, King of the Kongo by Carl Owens; Askia Muhammed Toure, King of Songhay by Dillon; Mansa Kankan Mussa, King of Mali by Higgins Bond; Shaka, King of Zulus by Paul Collins; Menelek II, King of Kings of Abyssinia by Don Miller; Hannibal, Ruler of Carthage by Charles Lilly; Akhenaton, Pharaoh of Egypt by Higgins Bond; Taharqa, King of Nubia by Biggers; Osei Tutu, King of Asante by Alfred J. Smith; Sunni Ali Ber, King of Songhay by L. D. Dillon; Moshoeshoe, King of Basutoland by Jerry Pickney; and Idris Alooma, Sultan of Bornu by Charles Lilly. The front of each of the three sections of the board is covered in clear plastic with wood design contact paper on the back. The three sections are taped together. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
