Rectangular trifold cardboard display board mounted with ten newspaper cuttings relating to President Barack Obama's inauguration. The first is the front page of the "The Washington Examiner", with the headline, "A dream achieved", undated and color photographic images of Barack Obama and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The second is from an essay entitled, "Unite with One Heart and One Mind" by Barack Obama, with a color photographic image of Obama standing in front of the Jefferson Memorial. The third is part of an article entitled, "Obama Ushers In An Era of Inclusion" and includes two color photographic images from the inaugural prayers. The fourth is the front page of "The Washington Post", with the headline, "President Obama", dated January 21, 2008, with a color photographic image of Barack and Michelle Obama. The fifth is a welcome message to President Barack Obama with a color photographic image of the White House. The sixth is a composite color photographic image of scenes from the inauguration with the text, "The Inauguration of / BARACK OBAMA / A New Beginning". The sixth is a composite color photographic image of scenes from the Inaugural Ball. The seventh is a color photographic image of the crowds on the National Mall during the inauguration, with the title, "Just the feeling of being here". The eighth is the front page of the "News & Messenger" with the headline, "Dawn of a New Era", dated January 20, 2009. The ninth consists of black and white photographic images of Barack and Michelle Obama, Beyonce Knowles, and Mary J. Blige, with the title, "Obamas Shatter Racial Stereotypes as America Struggles to Become 'One'". In the bottom left corner there is a round sticker with the text, "BARACK OBAMA / 44TH U.S. PRESIDENT". The documents are affixed to the board with blue tape. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
