Buffalo soldier, 9th Cavalry U. S. Army, 1867, 1996 Papier-mache, bas relief Mirella Monti Belshe Papier-mache circular bas relief of a Buffalo soldier seated on a horse. The horse is standing on two legs and the soldier has his back to the viewer and is looking over his shoulder towards the viewer. The text, "BUFFALO SOLDIER 1867 / 9th CAVALRY US ARMY" is inscribed around the edge of the artwork. The artwork is a bronze color. The artwork is mounted on a white board and framed in a gold-colored frame. On the reverse of the frame the artist, Mirella Monti Belshe, wrote a description of her process for creating the papier-mache artwork from an original clay mold. Belshe gives her address as Studio 32, Torpedo Factory Art Center, Alexandria, VA. |
