Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster with the text, "Persistence, Pride, / Perseverance and Perception / continue to bring progress in / business, education, athletics, / science, entertainment, politics and / in all phases of our society..." in a central box. Surrounding this are black and white drawings of ten African Americans with their name and role. The drawings are of: Lt. Col. Guion S. (Guy) Bluford, Jr., Andrew Young, Mary Futrell, John Thompson, Henry Aaron, Harold Washington, Bryant Gumbel, Vanessa Williams, Louis Gossett, Jr., and Herman J. Russell. At the bottom of the poster are logos for the G. Heileman Brewing Company, Inc., who produced the poster. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and taped at the back. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
