Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with eleven documents printed on green paper. On the left side of the board are six information pages and the title page produced by the Anacostia Museum for their exhibition entitled, "The Real McCoy: Afro-American Invention and Innovation, 1619-1930". The pages are entitled, "Morgan's Safety Hood", "Pharmacology", "Banjo", "Dig It", "Pick a Cure!", and "Make Your Own", which gives instructions for making a one stringed instrument. On the right side of the board are two pages entitled, "Early Black Inventors" from the "Mini Page". It lists African American inventions during slavery including in medicine, agriculture, and music. Below this is a copy of an article entitled, "Black Inventors" that contains black and white photographic images and biographical information about Benjamin Banneker, Lewis H. Latimer, Jan Matzeliger, Granville Woods, Madam C. J. Walker, Elijah McCoy, George Washington Carver, and Garrett Morgan. The image of Banneker is of a model from the Smithsonian Institution. The document also explains what a patent is. The documents are affixed to the board with red tape. The front and back of the board are covered in wood design contact paper. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
