Rectangular foamcore display board mounted with four documents, entitled, "Arts and Sciences", "Dr. James Derham", "Charles R. Drew", and "Dr. Daniel Hale Williams". The documents include black and white photographic images, drawings and partial sections of text that describe African American achievements in art and science, including three medical doctors. The images on the page entitled, "Arts and Sciences" are of the cover of Benjamin Banneker's Almanac, a drawing of Rillieux's evaporating pan, Edmonia Lewis, Elizabeth Taylor Greenfield, Charles L. Reason, James Williams, and Frances E. W. Harper. On the page entitled, "Charles R. Drew", is an image of Drew and an image of George Washington Carver. The pages for Derham and Williams have a drawing of the man and a drawing of him at work, Derham as a doctor and Williams as a surgeon. These two pages also have a section entitled, "Test Yourself" which consists of five questions based on the accompanying text. The documents are affixed to the board with red tape and the board is edged with black tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. Handwritten on the back in black ink is the text, "Science / Tech. / 2." This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
