Color photograph entitled, "DeeDee's Beauty Shop," by Carol Siegel, 1985. The photograph shows the interior of a beauty shop where a male stylist is putting curlers in the hair of the young woman seated in front of him. The woman wears a brown plastic cape and is talking to another woman seated in a chair who is wearing a blue plastic cape. There are hairdryers in the background and drawings of different hairstyles on the wall. The photograph is housed in a silver-colored metal frame with a glass front and a hanging wire attached at the back. This photograph was taken by Siegel as part of a project, grant-funded by the Alexandria Commission on the Arts, to document the Parker-Gray Historic District's Black community, 1985-1986. |
