Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with three documents. On the left is an article entitled, "The Buffalo Soldier: A legacy of American honor and courage commemorated on postage stamp" and handwritten "4-16-94". The article gives a brief history of the "Buffalo Soldiers" and the stamp issued by the United States Post Office. In the center is a printed document with a brief history of the United States Colored Troops after the Civil War and the drawings that were made of the "Buffalo Soldiers" in the West by Frederick Remington, printed by American Heritage Engravings, Alexandria, VA. On the right of the board is an article about the release of the Buffalo Soldier stamp by the United States Post Office. The article includes two black and white photographic images, one of the stamp and the other of former Buffalo Soldier, Alpheus Jones. The front of the board is covered in wood design contact paper and clear plastic which is taped on the back. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
