Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster entitled, "Juneteenth" with a drawing of an African American man, woman and child signed by DeBerry. The poster also includes the text, "On the 19th June, 1865, Major General Granger arrived / in Galveston, Texas to command the District / of Texas following the Civil War and / officially announced the freedom of the slaves in / Texas..." The board is edged in black tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and the back is covered in wood design contact paper. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
