Irregular-shaped cardboard display board mounted with a light blue document entitled, "Educating America: Black Universities and Colleges Strengths and Crises" which depicts nine female African American presidents of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, with a drawing of each women and her state. Each has a caption listing her name, position and the name and address of the college or university. On this board there are also nine documents, each with a black and white image of a notable African American woman. They are: Mary Church Terrell, Mary McLeod Bethune, Maria Louise Balwin, Lucy Craft Laney, Charlotte L. Forten Grimke, Charlotte Hawkins Brown, Fanny Jackson Coppin, Georgiana Rose Simpson, and Willa Beatrice Player. The documents are affixed to the display board with blue tape. The front and back of the board are covered in wood design contact paper and the front is covered in clear plastic. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
