Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with five posters from the Documentary Photo Aids (DPA) series entitled, "DPA Immigration Series". The posters are numbered 1, 2, 28, 5 and 13. The first poster consists of a copy of a cartoon by Joseph Keppler of immigrants welcomed by an Uncle Sam figure. The remaining four posters consists of black and white photographic images with a caption below. The posters illustrate immigrants arriving in New York harbor on boats and exiting Ellis Island. The front of the board is covered in wood design contact paper and clear plastic which is taped at the back. Handwritten in red ink on the back of the board is "Immigration / 1 of 7" and in black ink, "F. / Immigrants / All / (1882-1950)". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
