Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with four posters from the Documentary Photo Aids (DPA) series entitled, "DPA Immigration Series", and four DPA posters from unknown series. The posters are numbered 35, 38, 175, 180, 216, and 36. The numbers for two posters are not visible. The posters consist of black and white photographic images with a caption below. The first poster is a photograph of Charles Proteus Steinmetz, the second is a photograph of Samuel Gompers, the third is a photograph of Knute Rockne, the fourth is a 1909 photograph of U.S. inspectors examining the eyes of immigrants at Ellis Island, the fifth is a photograph of Samuel Gompers and a copy of a 1902 letter from the Philadelphia and Reading Railway Company, the sixth is a 1937 photograph of family waiting by the side of a highway in New Mexico as their car has stalled on their migrant journey to California, the seventh is a photograph of Jacob August Riis, and the eighth is a 1933 photograph of workers unloading a beer. The front of the board is covered in wood design contact paper and clear plastic which is taped at the back. Handwritten in red ink on the back of the board is "7 of 7 / Immigration" and in black ink, "F. Immigration / (1882-1950)". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
