Description |
Irregularly shaped cardboard display board mounted with nine posters entitled, "African Cities", "A Zulu Mother and Child", "Plowing a Field in Ghana", "Decorating Pottery", "A Research Laboratory", "Hauling Logs in the Congo", "Building a House", "Nigeria's Parliament", and "The Temple of Karnak". Eight of the posters consists of a black and white photographic image, the title, the plate number, and a brief caption. The poster entitled, "African Cities" consists of a line drawing map of the continent of African showing African countries and cities. The date of the poster is pre-1975 based on the names listed for the countries, for example Spanish Sahara was renamed Western Sahara in 1975. Several other countries have also changed their names from those shown on this poster, often following their independence. The posters are numbered as plates 42, 21, 27, 34, 48, 33, 23, 18, and 14. The posters are from a series entitled, "Africa" produced by Informative Classroom Picture of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The front of the board is covered in green card and the back is covered in blue plastic. There is a line of black tape at the left side of the board. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. It is possible that the black tape originally joined together the two boards B2019.1.851 and B2019.1.852. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
