Description |
Irregularly shaped cardboard display board mounted with two posters and a document. The document mounted at the top of the board consists of the title, "Women in American History" and small images of four posters in this series. Below this are the first two posters in this series. Each poster consists of color drawings depicting fifteen women, mostly in a scene illustrating their achievements. The drawings on the left poster are of Virginia Dare, Priscilla Alden, Margaret Brent, Abigail Adams, Betsy Ross, Molly Pitcher, Deborah Sampson, Sojourner Truth, Mary Jemison, Dolley Madison, Elizabeth Ann Seton, Lucy Stone, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Amelia Bloomer. At the bottom of the poster is the black text, "FIRST WOMEN'S / RIGHTS / CONVENTION / 1848" in a white rectangle. The background of the poster is blue, yellow and grey. The drawings on the right poster are of Julia Ward Howe, Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Tubman, Mary Baker Eddy, Clara Barton, Belle Starr, Laura Bridgman, Mary Harris Jones, Belle Boyd, Jane Addams, Carrie Chapman Catt, Liliuokalani, Juliette Low, Nellie Bly, and Anna Mary Robinson "Grandma Moses". At the bottom of the poster is the black text, "LEAGUE OF / WOMEN VOTERS" in a white rectangle. The background of the poster is green and yellow. The posters were produced by Instructional Fair, Inc. The posters are affixed to the board with blue tape and the header document is affixed with red tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back of the board. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
