Rectangular cardboard display board with the program for the "Black Americans in Defense of Our Nation" event at Hine Junior High School, May 28, 1997, mounted as eight sheets of green photocopied paper in two rows of four. Below this are six color photographs from the event. The program includes a schedule of the events, a listing of the subjects covered by the Funn exhibition, a brief history of the Buffalo Soldiers, a list of "10 don'ts from your child" and an acknowledge page. The front and back covers of the program are covered in handwritten illustrations of African Americans in the military, NASA etc. The color photographs include Carlton Funn and others. They also show banners welcoming General Julius W. Becton Jr., CEO of the District of Columbia Schools. The paper and photographs are affixed to the cardboard and there is a line of green tape between the paper and photographs. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and the back is covered in contact paper with a wood design. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
