Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with nine posters from the Documentary Photo Aids (DPA) series entitled, "DPA Series: Building the First Transcontinental Railroad". The posters are numbered 12 to 20. The posters consist of black and white photographic images with a caption below. The posters show the construction of the railroad, including the latter stages of construction at Promontory Summit where the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad company tracks would meet and the Promontory Trestle. The captions note that many of the laborers are Chinese or Irish and that some of the laborers are wearing their old Civil War uniform pants. The right side of the board is edged in white tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. Handwritten on the back of the board in black is the text, "D. Westward / Ex / (1840-1879)", and in red, "The Transcontinental / Railroad #3 of / 4". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
