Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with four posters from the Documentary Photo Aids (DPA) series entitled, "DPA Immigration Series". The posters are numbered 4, 6, 8 and 9. The posters consist of black and white photographic images or drawings with a caption below. The first poster is an English 1833 cartoon discouraging people from emigrating, the second is a 1901 photograph of the cramped conditions on the steerage deck of the Westernland liner out of Antwerp, the third is two images of Ellis Island, one an aerial view and the other an image of immigrants standing waiting to enter the Hall, and the fourth is two photographs of eye doctors examining immigrants for possible signs of trachoma. The front of the board is covered in red card and blue tape. The posters are affixed to the board with metal studs. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. Handwritten in black ink on the back of the board is "F. / (1882-1950)". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
