Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster advertising a Buffalo Soldiers stamp issued by the U. S. Postal Service in 1994, flanked by two color drawings of Buffalo Soldiers. The poster has a color image of the stamp for the Buffalo Soldiers which features a group of mounted soldiers with one in the foreground. In the background of the poster is a photographic color image of red and white fabric with numbers, a pair of tan leather gloves and the peak of a black hat. The poster has the text "HOLD / THEM / IN HIGH / REGARD" in white, and "These brave / soldiers of the / United States Army / played an important / role in our country's / history..." in black. The drawing on the left of the board is a colorized engraving by Frederic Remington entitled "Marching on the Mountains" and depicted a group of Buffalo Soldiers leading their horse down a mountainside. The drawing on the right side of the board is the image used in the stamp and has the text "SAMPLE" across it. The poster and drawings are affixed to the board with tape. The front of the board is covered in wood design contact paper and clear plastic which is taped at the back of the board. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
