Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster advertising Black Heritage stamps issued by the U. S. Postal Service in 1994. The poster has a color image of thirteen stamps for Dr. Allison Davis, Buffalo Soldiers, Jim Beckwourth, Nat 'King' Cole, Ethel Waters, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, 'Ma' Rainey, Howlin' Wolf, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey and Jimmy Rushing. The background of the poster consists of light grey drawings of a man on a horse, a head and a musical staff with treble clef. The poster has the text: "BLACK HERITAGE / 1994 ISSUES IN THE CONTINUING SERIES OF COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS". The issue month of the stamp is included. The poster is affixed to the board with tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back of the board. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
