Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with poster entitled "O, Freedom Underground Railway: 2001 Black History Calendar" produced by the DC Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board. The calendar months are shown along the left edge of the poster. The main image on the poster is a map showing the Harriet Tubman routes and other major routes used. There are also images illustrating the patterns used as code in quilts and slave houses. Additionally along the bottom edge is a color drawing depicting people, including a child, across a river in a small boat entitled, "Bound for that other side". The text of the poster describes the history of the Underground Railway. The front of the poster is covered in clear plastic and edged in black, red and green tape. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
