Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with two additional sections of cardboard. The top section is rectangular and has the handwritten title in black ink, "AMERICAN EXPERIENCE" with a black edge. Below this is a section of cardboard in the shape of the United States of America. This shape is covered with numerous black and white photographic images of African American people, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. These documents are cut from publications such as newspapers, magazines and books and are pasted to the board to form a montage. The board is edged with yellow tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and the back is covered in black contact paper with black tape at the edges. This board would have been displayed with the board B2019.1.1049 to read, "The Afro-American Experience", with imagery from Africa and the United States of America. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
