Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster produced by Pitman Publishing Company, 1968. The poster consists of three black and white drawings and two photographic images in three rows on a yellow background with the title, "Southern / Reconstruction" along the top edge in white text. Each image has a brief explanatory caption below it. On the top row are two drawings one of an African American man voting in Washington D.C. overseen by white and African American officials; the other of Congressman Robert Brown Elliott, a formerly enslaved person, addressing Congress. On the second row is a photographic image of Carl Schurz, a photographic image of Representative Jeremiah Haralson of Alabama; and a drawing of African American and white children playing together riding brooms as horses. The poster is affixed to a black board which is edged in black tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. The board is marked on the reverse "10". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
