Description |
In this handwritten letter (a) to his brother in Indiana, written on September 20, 1865, a United States Colored Troops (USCT) private in Corpus Christi, Texas describes how their brother is dying from scurvy. The letter is written in black ink on what was presumably white paper, which was folded in half. Three of the four sections include the text of the letter written between light blue lines. The fourth section has the writer's address written in the top third of the page. The stamped and postmarked envelope (b) contains the address of the recipient. It has been torn open at one of the sides. |
