Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster by Julian Madyun, entitled "Lest We Forget". In the center of the poster is a color drawing of a cross-section of a slave ship showing the crowded conditions below deck and a scene of brutality and torture on the deck. Below this is the text, "'Let the Colored man stand his ground. There is far more honor / in dying like a free man than living like a slave.' / C. Thomas Fortune". On either of this are copies of two documents, a notice of "slave catchers" in Boston in 1851 on the left, and a slave auction flyer on the right. Along the top and bottom edge of the board are color images of famous African Americans and one Jamaican, some are drawings and others are photographic images. Along the top of the poster are: Frederick Douglass, Bill Pickett, Charlie Parker, Marcus Garvey, Langston Hughes, Muhammad Ali, Paul Robeson, D. W. Griffith, Duke Ellington, Angela Davis, and Malcolm X. Along the bottom of the poster are: Harriet Tubman, Elijah Muhammad, Bob Marley, Bobby Seale, Gordon, Billie Holiday, Martin Luther King, Jr., Carter G. Woodson, Rosa Parks, Lt. Henry O.
