Book, "Mary S. Peake, The Colored Teacher at Fortress Monroe," by Rev. Lewis C. Lockwood (American Tract Society, undated). The cover is bound with green cloth with a rectangular inset border around the front and back covers. On the spine in ornate gold lettering is the text, "MARY S PEAKE." The volume contains 64 numbered pages and 3 plates. The plates consist of drawings entitled, "Mary S. Peake, First Teacher of the Freed People at Fortress Monroe, Va.," "Little Daisy," and "A 'Contraband' School". Handwritten in pencil on the page opposite the inside cover is the text, "KM / 30" in the upper right corner. On the following page, handwritten in ink, is the text, "East Braceville / S. S. Library / Mo [ ]." |
