Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster entitled, "Quest for Freedom: The Amistad Story", produced by the DC Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board as a "2002 Black History Commemorative Poster". The poster includes a color photographic image of a replica of the ship, Amistad and a statue to Sengbe Pieh (also known as Joseph Cinque). The text describes the life of Senge Pieh including his kidnapping in Mendes, his transportation to Cuba and his commandeering of the ship the Amistad and his subsequent trial and acquittal in the United States. The poster is affixed to the display board with black tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back of the board. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
