Description |
Carved wooden mask. The mask has a large protruding forehead, nose and mouth. The forehead has horizontal grooves carved in it and a central vertical line. There are holes cut for the eyes and there is a hole cut within the mouth. There are small holes cut along the edge of the mask on both sides and under the chin section. There is a length of wire strung at the back of the mask between two of these holes. A typed note affixed to the back of the mask reads, "Mask of the Guere cannibal tribe, / Ivory Coast on border of Liberia. / (Museum piece.)" |
