Rectangular foamcore display board mounted with a black and white copy of an advertisement entitled, "What can Black Americans achieve? Everything". The text at the top of the document reads, "African American achievement has influenced every aspect of America's past... / ...Each month we'll send you a set of 10 biography panels..." Below this are fourteen subject categories each with a black and white photographic image of an African American, with their name and role. The categories and individuals are: Ed Bradley for Journalism and Law, Jean Baptiste Pointe De Sable for Exploration and the West, Ella Fitzgerald for Music, Paul Robeson for Entertainment, Ida B. Wells for Activism, Jesse Owens for Sports, Benjamin O. Davis for Military and Aviation, Henry Ossawa Tanner for Visual Arts, Percy Lavon Julian for Science and Invention, Maggie Lena Walker for Business, Patricia Roberts Harris for Politics and Government, Sojourner Truth for Faith and Religion, Langston Hughes for Literature, and Mary McLeod Bethune for Education. The document is affixed to the board with yellow tape and the board is edged in yellow tape. The board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. This advertisement is by the Black Heritage Commemorative Society. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
