Description |
Trophy awarded by the Greenville County Branch of the NAACP on January 24, 1964. The trophy consists of a gold-colored metal figure of a man dressed in a suit and hat and carrying a briefcase mounted on a marble base which sits on four gold-colored metal feet. This section sits on a rectangular wooden base mounted with an engraved plaque which reads, "IN RECOGNITION OF HIS UNSELFISH DEVOTION / TOWARDS THE CIVIC ADVANCEMENT OF HIS / FELLOW AMERICANS / BY / THE GREENSVILLE COUNTY BRANCH / N.A.A.C.P. / JANUARY 24, 1962." Inset into the back of the trophy are two wooden columns inlayed with squares of white plastic which have remnants of gold-colored paint attached. The two columns support a rectangular wooden plinth which has a screw in the center which shows evidence that an additional element was previously attached. The figure resembles Samuel Wilbert Tucker. |
