Description |
Rectangular foamcore display board with blue background mounted with three documents. The top document is an image that shows the Declaration of Independence with a shape of the United States of American burnt through it to reveal text relating to civil rights such as "Brown vs Board of Education" and "The Voting Rights Act is passed". It also includes the text, "NAACP // CONSCIENCE OF THE NATION". The central document consists of black and white photographic images of Charles H. Houston, Thurgood Marshall, and Dr. James M. Nabritt, Jr. and a caption regarding their legal work. The lower document is a black and white photographic image of the United States Postal Service's stamp for Thurgood Marshall. The documents are affixed to the board with blue tape and the board is edged in blue tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
