Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with two posters entitled, "Immigrants All... Americans All". The posters consist of multiple black and white photographic images of people, dated from the late nineteenth to mid-twentieth century. Below each poster is a blue printed document that gives a caption to each image. The posters have been hand-annotated in red ink to number the images to correspond with the captions. Many of the images, according to the captions, are of immigrants to the United States of America, however some are of Native Americans and Puerto Ricans and one is of an African American. Additionally, there is an image of Sengbe Pieh (Joseph Cinque) who was not an immigrant to America, but was forcibly transported to America and upon release returned to his home in Sierra Leone. These posters were created by the Coordinating Committee of Ellis Island. The posters are affixed to the board with blue tape. The front and back of the board are covered in wood design contact paper and the front is also covered in clear plastic. Handwritten in black ink on the back of the board is, "F. (1882-1950)". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
