Description |
Irregularly shaped cardboard display board mounted with six posters entitled, "Disabled", and a document. Each poster consists of a black and white photographic image or drawing of a famous man or woman with a caption below. The posters are for Harriet Tubman, Marlee Matlin, Sarah Bernhardt, Whoopi Goldberg, Francisco Goya, and Woodrow Wilson. The title is written in two colors with "DIS" in grey and "ABLED" in black so that it reads both as "disabled" and "abled". The two central posters have a white background and the remaining posters have a black background. The captions describe some of the challenges and achievements of each person. The document consists of a black and white photographic image of a person in a wheelchair at their graduation and a statement from Gail Fullerton, President of San Jose State University. The posters were part of "The Distinguished People with Disabilities Series" produced by the Disabled Student Services Programs, San Jose State University. The board is edged with black tape. There is an additional section of cardboard affixed to the back of the board. The front of the board is covered in grey paper and clear plastic and the back is covered in wood design contact paper. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
