Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with title documents and six posters of American women. The title is printed in black text on a white background across four documents, and reads, "MARCH IS NATIONAL / WOMEN'S / HISTORY / MONTH". The posters consist of a color photographic image with the woman's name, Native American tribe name, and a brief biography below. The posters are for educator Agnes Savilla (Mohave), potter Marie Martinez (Pueblo), poet Emily Pauline Johnson (Mohawk), educator Clara Sue Kidwell (Choctaw and Chippewa), singer and songwriter Buffy St. Marie (Cree), and anthropologist Dr. Beatrice Medicine (Hunkpapa (Lakota)). The posters are part of a series entitled, "American Indian Personalities" produced by The Instructor Publications, Inc. The posters are affixed to the board with metal studs. The board is covered in green, white and black paper. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and the back is covered in wood design contact paper. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
