Rectangular foamcore display board mounted with two copies of the advertising brochure for the Time-Life Books "The Old West" series. The front of the brochure includes four black and white photographic images of Red Cloud, Jim Bridger, a man panning for gold, and a horse rider with a herd of cattle. The document also includes numerous short articles about life in the West, such as language use, cattle branding, and a diamond hoax. The back of the brochure, mounted on the right side of the board, includes black and white photographic images of Lola Montez, Belle Starr, Squirrel Tooth Alice, Narcissa Whitman, Jim Beckwourth, Jim Hume, and "Hanging Judge" Parker. It also includes a quiz, the lyrics to "The Old Chisholm Trail", and a coupon for purchasing the book series. The front is covered in clear plastic. Handwritten on the reverse of the board is the black text, "West- / Ward / Mvs. / D. WestWard / Ex / (1840-1879)". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
