Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster entitled, "Famous Black Americans in the U.S. Armed Forces". The poster consists of seventy-two black and white photographic images of African Americans in the United States armed forces. They are divided under the sub-headings: General Officers in the Army; Flag and General Officers in the Navy; General Officer Marine Corps; General Officers in the Air Force; General Officers in the Army and Air Force Reserves; General Officers in the Army and Air National Guard. The entries for General Roscoe Robinson, Jr., General Daniel James, Jr., Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely, Jr., and Brigadier General Frank E. Peterson are in a separate panel on the right side of the poster. The title is in red and black text and is flanked with draped United States of America flags. The poster was produced by Glasco Ry Ales The poster is affixed to the board with black tape. The front of the board is covered in wood design contact paper and clear plastic which is taped at the back. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
