Museum |

Description |
Rectangular foamcore display board with enlarged article taped to it. The board is entitled, "Alexandria, Va. Queen St. Library Sit In 1939!" but it is not clear if this is the original title of the article or where the article was originally published. The article details a sit-in by African Americans in 1939 of the then "white's only" Kate Waller Barrett Library, led by Samuel W. Tucker. It also comments on the lack of nomination of the Parker-Gray neighborhood to the National Register of Historic Places. The front of the display board is covered in clear plastic and edged with blue tape. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
