Description |
Irregularly shaped cardboard display board mounted with a newspaper cutting and three printed documents relating to Leron Perkins, a student at Hines Junior High School, who was shot and killed in 1995, at the age of fourteen. The newspaper clipping entitled, "Family and Friends Question Why Boy, 14, Was Slain". It describes Leron Perkins and his murder. Above this cutting is a printed poem entitled, "How Dare You", by Vashtie Rowe and was written in memory of Perkins. At the left of the cutting is a poem entitled, "L.E.R.O.N." which is signed by Joshua Jones, James Matthews, and Ms. Sheckler. On the right is a printed document to the students, staff and teachers at Hine Junior High School inviting them to the funeral service for Leron Perkins on December 27, 1995 at St. Martin De'Porres Church in Capitol Heights, Maryland. This document and the newspaper cutting include a black and white photographic image of Perkins. The documents are affixed to the board with brown tape. The front and back of the board is covered in wood design contact paper and the front is also covered in clear plastic. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
