Description |
Letter of furlough for Lewis Cass White. White was approved for ten days furlough from April 19, 1863 to April 29, 1863 to travel to Butler, Pennsylvania (his hometown). The furlough gives a description of White (18 years, 5 ft 6in, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair, and the profession of a teacher) as well as when and where he enlisted and his term of service. The furlough stipulates White must return to his regiment in camp near Falmouth, VA or be considered a deserter. Furlough was approved by Thomas McLaughlin, Captain of Company H, 102nd regiment PA Vol. On the reverse side of the furlough are multiple statements of approval from other officers during White's travel to and from Butler. |
