Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with two posters. The poster on the left side of the board is entitled, "Excerpts from Mary McLeod Bethune's Last Will and Testament". At the top of the poster is a small image of McLeod in red. The text is divided into nine sections. The section headings are in red and the remaining text is black. The headings are as follows: "I Leave You Love... / I Leave You Hope... / I Leave You the Challenge of Developing / Confidence in One Another... / I Leave You a Thirst for Education... / I Leave You a Respect for the Use of Power... / I Leave You Faith... / I Leave You Racial Dignity... / I Leave You a Desire to Live Harmoniously with / Your Fellowman... / I Leave You, Finally, a Responsibility to / Our Young People..." The poster on the right side of the board is entitled, "Our Heroes of Destiny". The poster is a reproduction of an image from 1912 that consists of sepia photographic images of Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Blanche K. Bruce, Booker T. Washington, Frederick Douglass, and John M. Langston. The poster are affixed to the board with black tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and the back is covered in wood design contact paper. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
