Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with ten black and white documents illustrating five inventions by African Americans. The inventions are improvement on the heating furnace by Alice H. Parker, a home security system utilizing television surveillance by M. V. B. Brown et al., a hoisting and loading mechanism by Mary Jane Reynolds, an apparatus for holding yarn skeins by Julia Terry Hammonds and a corner cleaning attachment by Gertrude E. Downing. There are two pages for four of the inventions, the first page consists of a description of the invention, a patent drawing and a quiz related to the invention. The second page is a line drawing of the invention in use. There is not a drawing of the hoisting and loading mechanism in use. The last page on the board is a set of answers to the quizzes. The pages are numbered 16-25. The answer page does not have a page number. These documents were produced by Black Science Activity Books. The documents are affixed to the board with red and green tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
