Description |
Rectangular foamcore display board mounted with a poster entitled, "Art Kane 1958: One Day In Harlem". The poster consists of a copy of the black and white photograph taken by Art Kane in 1958 of fifty-six jazz musicians, on the steps of a building in Harlem. The musicians include Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Count Bassie. At the bottom of the poster is a line drawing of the photograph numbering each person and to the left of this is a numbered list of their names. The text, "ONE DAY IN HARLEM" is in blue. The poster is affixed to the board with red, black and green tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and the back is covered in wood design contact paper. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). The photograph is also known as "A Great Day In Harlem". |
