Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with two posters. The poster on the left is entitled, "Jackie Robinson, The First of a New Breed, The Black Presence in Sports" and consists of a color drawing of Jackie Robinson, by Charles Lilly with a brief biography below. The drawing depicts three images of Robinson, in his Brooklyn Dodgers baseball uniform, in slacks and sports coat, and sliding to home base in a baseball game. In the background is an image of a baseball stadium. The poster on the right is entitled, "Charlie Christian, The Man Who Electrified Jazz, The Black Presence in Music" and consists of a color drawing of Charlie Christian, by Charles Lilly with a brief biography below. The drawing depicts two images of Christian playing a guitar. The image at the right of the poster shows Christian with other members of Benny Goodman's band. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
