Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster with a sepia toned photographic image of a group of five men and a large number of women. The women are dressed in nurses' uniforms. The men and one woman are seated at the front and the remaining women are standing behind them on the steps outside the front of the hospital. The caption below the image reads, "The Freemen's Hospital School of Nursing was founded on November 15, 1894 by Dr. Daniel Hale Williams as an 18-month program with 17 students between the ages of 21 and 35 years". Below the image is the title in black text "A Legacy of Excellence: / The Mission of / Howard University Hospital". The background of the poster is cream. A white round sticker with "3" in black is affixed to the poster on the bottom right corner. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic and the back is covered in wood design contact paper. This poster is part of a series on Howard University Hospital. This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
