Description |
Irregularly shaped cardboard display board mounted with six posters from the Documentary Photo Aids (DPA) series entitled, "DPA Series: Building the First Transcontinental Railroad". The posters are numbered 6 to 11. The posters consist of black and white photographic images with a caption below. The posters show the construction of the railroad, including the trestles and cuts created for passage through the High Sierra. The images include "Chinese laborers" working on the railroad, and equipment such as locomotives and steam shovels. The front of the board is covered in wood design contact paper and clear plastic which is taped at the back. Handwritten on the back of the board in black is the text, "D. / Westward / Ex / (1840-1879)", and in red, "The Transcontinental / Railroad #2 of / 4". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
