Description |
Rectangular cardboard display board mounted with a poster entitled, "Blacks in the Old West", which consists of seven color drawings of scenes featuring notable African Americans in the West of America. Those featured are: Nat Love "Deadwood Dick", Mary Fields "Stage Coach Mary", James Beckwourth, George Washington Bush, Isaiah Dorman (Buffalo Soldier), Tenth Regiment Calvary, and Bill Pickett. Each drawing has a caption and on the right there is a listing of Buffalo Soldiers and West Point Soldiers. At the bottom of the poster is a section that lists three "Little known facts about Blacks in the Old West" and also lists additional information about 51 people and seven "black towns". The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped on the back. Handwritten on the back of the board is "FUNN". This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
