Biography |
Lewis Henry Bailey was enslaved at birth and was held at 1315 Duke Street before he was trafficked further south. In 1863 Bailey, now a free man, travelled from Texas to Alexandria and found his mother. His story inspired the naming of 1315 Duke Street as Freedom House. |
Occupation |
Reverend Bailey preached at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Alexandria and later founded Ebenezer Baptist Church, Occoquan, in 1883. He went on found other churches in the Northern Virginia area and organized schools in Neasbsco, VA and Summit School in Occoquan. |
