Photograph of Annie B. Rose, Leo Brooks, Leroy Hines, Annette Johnson, Warthell Brown, and an unidentified man standing in a church around a podium that is located in front of organ pipes, 1949. Two individuals from Alexandria are identified in this photograph. Annie B. Rose is the third person from the left. On the far left is Leo Brooks. Research indicates that this photograph was taken during a state-wide oratorical contest for high school students in Virginia. The event was held as a part of the 1949 Virginia Elks State Association meeting. The contest was hosted at Zion Baptist Church in Phoebus, Virginia. Brooks was a student at Parker Gray High School. The other students in the photograph are Leroy Hines (far right), Annette Johnson, and Warthell Brown. |
