Rectangular foamcore display board mounted with four documents, entitled, "Scholars and Scientists", "Negro Inventors", and "Madam C. J. Walker ". The documents include black and white photographic images and partial sections of text that describe African American achievements in science, technology, business and the arts. The images on the page entitled, "Scholars and Scientists" are of Carter G. Woodson, Rayford W. Logan, Abram L. Harris, Ernest Just, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, E. Franklin Frazier, Dr. Charles Drew, and Charles S. Johnson. On the page entitled, "Negro Inventors", is an image of Jan Matzeliger and his drawing of his lasting machine of 1883. The page entitled, "Madam C. J. Walker" has an image of Walker and the last untitled page has images of Granville T. Woods, Norbert Billieux, and Elijah J. McCoy. The documents are affixed to the board with red tape and the board is edged with black tape. The front of the board is covered in clear plastic which is taped at the back. Handwritten on the back in black ink is the text, "Science / Tech. / 1." This display board was created and used by Carlton A. Funn Sr. as part of his exhibition, "The History and Culture of Minorities", later named "National / International Cultural Exhibits ("NICE"). |
